About CarFree

More places to discover. More confidence to get there.

Public transportation can open up a city. It can turn a free afternoon into a beach visit, a museum trip or a chance to explore a neighborhood you’ve never seen.

Our mission is to help locals and visitors feel more confident making those journeys. We want buses and trains to be easier to understand and use, whether someone is exploring close to home, visiting a new city or planning an intercity trip.

CarFree: discovery and the journey together

CarFree brings places, events and experiences together with information to help you plan how to get there. Find something that interests you, build an outing and explore the available travel options from your starting point.

We’re building around the questions people ask: Where should I go? How do I get there? What should I know before I leave?

Destinations and transportation options vary by city. Our goal is to make that information useful and clear, so people can make informed choices about their trips.

Transit Coast: the company behind CarFree

Transit Coast LLC starts with a simple idea: helping people understand their travel options gives them more freedom to explore.

CarFree is how we’re putting that idea into practice, connecting the discovery of a place with the journey to get there. Our long-term mission is to make local and intercity public transportation easier to use.

When I was 13, I visited my cousins in New York and discovered the freedom public transportation could give someone without a car.

Back home in Miami, I went to Government Center, collected bus brochures and studied the routes. Then I convinced my friends to take the bus with me to malls, beaches and Bayside.

Years later, while working at Miami International Airport, I saw travelers struggling to navigate public transportation. I enjoyed helping with directions and sharing places I liked visiting as a local.

That became the idea behind CarFree: bring those two things together. Help people discover somewhere worth going, then help them understand how to get there. I wanted to offer that help to people I might never meet on the bus.
